The problem
A syndicated loan is a large, complex piece of financing where a group of lenders (a syndicate) lends to a single borrower: a corporation, a big project, or a government. One bank acts as the agent bank, the single point of contact that represents all the lenders. BBVA plays that agent role on billions of euros of loans.
The companies on the receiving end had no easy way to see the live state of their loan. Information on tranches, transactions, waivers, and covenants lived in scattered documents and manual processes, so getting an accurate, current picture meant phone calls and emails. Borrowers told us they wanted three things: easier access through a single digital channel, real-time monitoring of the loan, and simpler, clearer, faster processes.

How it works
We divided the interface into four parts, each with a clear job so the tool would be fast to learn:
- Loan summary. Everything about the loan in one place, from high-level figures down to each tranche.
- Typology of transactions. Cards that summarise the key data on transactions, covenants, and waivers, and double as a way to classify and filter content.
- Transaction list. Detailed tables of transactions, covenants, and waivers, with filtering across all records and one-click export to PDF or Excel.
- Event calendar. The timing of movements and covenants, so users can plan around upcoming dates.

Tranches open in an accordion for deeper detail and can be printed or downloaded. A modal shows the participant entities and how much each one holds. Any transaction or covenant can be expanded for the full detail behind it. Once the structure and interaction were settled, we worked on the visual layer to keep it consistent with BBVA's design language.
